2019 Comcast Cares Day at Congreso

On Saturday, May 4th, Congreso was honored to welcome an amazing group of Comcast employees as volunteers for Comcast Cares Day – one of the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts! They spent the day in North Philadelphia hosting workshops, making wellness kits, setting up a lactation room and cleaning up the Congreso campus alongside Congreso volunteers and staff! A special gracias to all that participated!

Congreso is so thankful for Comcast’s partnership for Comcast Cares Day and throughout the year! Thanks, Zeta Philly, for providing music for the day! To see more pictures of Comcast Cares Day, visit our Facebook!

Congreso's New Family Empowerment Center

Congreso’s Family Empowerment Center (FEC) officially opened on May 6th! Congreso was honored to be selected as one of two sites operating in the city of Philadelphia! The goal of the FEC is to reduce the number of children placed with the Department of Human Services by diverting families from entering into formal child welfare services. Once at these centers, families will be connected to in-house services and community based support systems to meet ongoing needs.

Congreso's Data & Evaluation Team Hard at Work!

In the Fall of 2018, the Data & Evaluation Team (D&E) began their Database Management Assessment. Distributing surveys to program managers and directors agency wide, the goal was to identify all of the agency’s databases’ data entry and reporting abilities. The survey responses were followed by in-person interviews from February to April of 2019. Through this meticulous process, the D&E Team were able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each database. Out of the 26 needed improvements identified, 20 have already been completed and 6 are scheduled to be completed by June!

In addition, Congreso congratulates Vice President of Quality Assurance Juan DeAngulo on his selection as a board member of the Eastern Evaluation Research Society (EERS) in May of 2019. The EERS is the oldest professional society for program evaluations in the US.

Congratulations to the entire D&E Team for their tremendous work over the last few months to ensure Congreso has the data infrastructure it needs to effectively practice our trademarked Primary Client Model (PCM) – providing data-driven, client-centered, and culturally-appreciative services! Pa’lante!

Congrats, Harcum College @ Congreso Graduates!

On May 11th, Congreso hosted our annual Harcum @ Congreso Graduate Banquet in honor of our 2018-2019 graduates! Felicidades to all who graduated this year! A special thanks to Miriam Figueroa, Congreso’s Harcum College Coordinator, for planning this event.

Barry Williams Named Congreso's New Pan American Site Coordinator

Barry Williams started his journey at Congreso as a part-timer and has now joined the Congreso Familia full-time as the Pan American Academy OST Site Coordinator! After several years supporting Congreso’s After School Program and working with youth as an assistant coordinator and STEM coordinator, Barry had the opportunity to join the OST program full time.

“The Congreso staff has impacted me in ways that I never imagined…they have believed in my abilities from the very beginning and words can’t explain how grateful I am.”

With the upcoming school year just a few months away, Barry can’t wait to make an impact. “I am looking forward to being a part of the beginning of something I believe to be very special that includes the new direction of the After School Program,” said Barry. “I really want to make sure that our youth engage in a new style of learning allowing them to grasp new information.” Congratulations, Barry!
