Aramark’s Back to School Drive at Congreso a Huge Success

On August 3rd, 2022, Congreso welcomed Aramark for a Back to School Drive at our Education & Training Center. Students from our summer programs enjoyed free backpacks, school materials, a cooking demonstration, and ice cream!

We even had one student sing for the group Man in the Mirror. When we asked Ashton why he chose this song he said,

“I chose this song because Ms. Best always says we have to picture who we want to be in the future; we have to go for our dreams. I want to be a singer.”

Good luck to you Ashton and all other students this school year!

Gracias to Aramark for helping our students kick off their upcoming school year with some positivity and a new backpack!

Edison & KCAPA End Summer Programming Ready for the School Year

On August 12th, 2022, Congreso’s Edison & KCAPA Summer Program ended with an event celebrating 6 weeks of student programming and internships! The cohort highlighted each other's accomplishments and enjoyed music, food, and games.

Sabria, a senior, shared her experience:

"My location was Edison HS. We were able to present on different topics to fellow students. My topic was mental health and we touched on coping mechanisms, how we can prevent triggers, working with others, and practicing empathy.

Having these different learning sessions was very important - not just for youth but for everyone. It's nice to have open conversations without shame or guilt. It's nice to have these outlets."
